The Work of Deborah Douglas: Art Gallery Reception

Artist Deborah Douglas will exhibit her work at STLCC-Wildwood, Aug. 26 - Oct. 17. The community is invited to view her work and meet her during a reception held in her honor, Thursday, Sept. 5 from 4-6 p.m.

About the Exhibition:
As an artist, I work with a variety of materials, including oil, enamel, encaustic, watercolor, ink, graphite, collage, and digital prints. The consistent practice of mixing media, ideas, and formal approaches is innate and familiar for me. I, like many artists, create works that incorporate a multitude of visual culture.

My conceptual interests lie in the expansive issue of domesticity; typically including references to food, interpersonal relationships, and to cultural and societal issues of gender and sexual equality and empowerment. I address these issues sometimes darkly, sometimes with humor, though often with both.

About the Artist:
Deborah Douglas holds an M.F.A. from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville with an emphasis in painting and printmaking, and a B.A. from Truman State University. She is currently an Associate Professor of Art and Art History at Saint Louis University.

Select recent solo exhibitions include The Sheldon Art Galleries (St. Louis), the Schmidt Art Center in Belleville, IL, Saint Louis University (Madrid, Spain), Fontbonne University (St. Louis) and The Messing Gallery (St. Louis). Group Invitational exhibitions include Minneapolis, Los Angeles, New York, North Carolina, Dallas, and St. Louis, among others. She has served as a juror and judge for numerous venues, most recently the Foundry Art Centre (2019) and The Shaw Art Fair (2018).
