DESCRIPTION:Why celebrate Pi Day when you can celebrate Pi Week? The math d
epartment invites faculty\, staff and students to participate in these even
ts March 11-14:\n\nProblem of the Day\nWHAT: There will be 3 different leve
ls of problems\, related to \, posted each day on the bulletin board outsid
e the Math Department in Science West. The levels will be basic\, thought-
provoking and challenging. \nHOW: Students may pick up an entry form in th
e Math Department and turn in their solution in the blue box in the Math De
partment. \nWHEN: Monday March 11\, Tuesday March 12\, Wednesday March 13
– solutions must be turned into Math Department each day by 4 pm.\nPRIZES:
A winner will be drawn daily from correct solutions for each level. \n\nAM
AZING MATH RACE\nWHAT: Teams of students will receive math questions that t
hey must answer and then take their solutions to the next stop of the Amazi
ng Math Race somewhere on campus. There will be 5 total questions.\nHOW: St
udents must sign up on Monday\, March 11 or Tuesday\, March 12 in the Math
Department. \nWHEN: Students must have some time available to ‘race’ betwe
en 8:00 am and 1:00 pm on Wednesday\, March 12 or Thursday\, March 14. Thi
s is a timed race.\nPRIZES: The three teams with the fastest times will re
ceive prizes.\n\nDIGITS OF PI\nWHAT: Students will recite as many consecuti
ve digits of pi as they can.\nHOW: Students must meet with their instructor
. For students not currently in a math course\, they may come to the Math
Department and find an available instructor.\nWHEN: Schedule with your inst
ructor for some time between Monday\, March 11 and Wednesday\, March 13.\nP
RIZES: The student reciting the most digits correctly will win a prize.\n\n
MY PI DAY\nWHAT: Students will find out on which digit of pi their birthda
y starts\, known as their Pi Day.\nHOW: Students may come to the Student C
enter Lobby and check their Pi Day.\nWHEN: Wednesday\, March 13 from 8:00
am to 1:00 pm.\nPRIZES: The students with the smallest and largest Pi Day
will win prizes.\n\nFUNDRAISER: SLICE OF PIE\nOn Thursday\, March 14 in th
e Student Center Lobby\, we will be selling slices of pie for $1. All of t
he money received will go toward student scholarships. Pie sales start at
8:00 am and will go until 1:00 pm or until the pie runs out.
